PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

SS-PMA is a customized compound additive package for plastic modification, supplied as free-flowing pellets that combine several functional additives in one pre-dispersed masterbatch. Instead of weighing and blending four to eight separate powders on the shop floor, the converter doses a single pellet. Each pellet carries a homogeneous dispersion of antioxidants, acid scavengers, processing aids, light stabilisers, slip and anti-block agents, or impact modifiers, depending on the grade selected, in a carrier that is matched to the base polymer of the customer's compound.

The product is built around three principles that matter to a B2B compounder: dispersion quality, dosing accuracy and batch-to-batch consistency. Additives are pre-dispersed under controlled temperature so that the active ingredients reach the polymer melt already wetted and de-agglomerated; the pellet count and pellet size distribution are kept narrow so that volumetric and gravimetric feeders deliver the same shot weight run after run. The result is fewer fisheyes, fewer black specks, shorter mixing cycles and a lower rejection rate on the downstream line.

Because plastic modification is always formulation-specific, SS-PMA is offered as a platform of five standard grades plus a custom grade. Standard grades cover general-purpose stabilisation and processing, high-temperature engineering resins, film and sheet, toughening and impact modification, and outdoor weathering. When a customer's formulation, filler loading, recycled content or processing window falls outside these envelopes, the package is re-engineered: active-ingredient ratio, carrier melt index, pellet hardness, dusting level and, where required, odour and food-contact compliance are adjusted and confirmed against a trial sample before commercial supply.

Every shipment is released against a COA that reports the actual lot values for appearance, active content, carrier melt index, moisture, bulk density and dispersion rating, and is supported by a TDS describing dosing, storage and handling and an MSDS in the customer's required language. Packaging, labelling and pallet configuration can be aligned with the customer's own warehouse and container-loading practice, and neutral or customer-branded print is available for OEM and private-label programmes.

Typical benefits reported by converters using pre-compounded additive packages include 15–30% shorter compounding cycles, 0.5–1.5% higher production yield through reduced scrap, elimination of weighing and premix labour, and a measurable reduction in dust exposure at the feeding station. Because the package is supplied as one article with a fixed specification, incoming inspection is reduced to one line item instead of five to eight.

QCEach lot is retained for 24 months. Full traceability from incoming raw material lot to finished pellet lot is available on request, together with the COA, TDS and MSDS package in English, Russian or the language required by the destination market.

POINTS FOR ATTENTION

ORDER INSTRUCTIONS

Orders are confirmed in four steps. Each step is closed in writing so that the lot released in China matches what the line in the customer's plant expects.

STEP 1Grade and specification confirmation. Quote the grade (SS-PMA-100 to -500 or custom code), the target polymer and melt index, the dosage window, the property to be achieved, and any colour, odour or compliance limit. A specification sheet with COA acceptance limits is issued for signature. Custom grades start from the formulation brief described in card 4.
STEP 2Packing and labelling. Standard 25 kg paper bag with PE liner, 40 bags per pallet, 1 000 kg net. Options: 500 kg and 1 000 kg FIBC with or without liner, 25 kg fibre drum, 20 kg carton for air freight, neutral white packaging, or customer-printed bags and pallet labels. Bag print can carry the customer's own brand where a private-label agreement is in place.
STEP 3Lead time and logistics. Standard grades ship 7–12 working days after deposit; custom grades 15–20 working days after sample approval. Typical loading: 20 pallets (20 t) in a 20' FCL, 40 pallets (40 t) in a 40' FCL, or 24 t loose bags. Port of loading Tianjin or Qingdao; FOB, CFR, CIF and DDP terms quoted on request. Air and LCL shipments are quoted per kilogram with the packing downgraded to cartons or drums.
STEP 4Inspection and after-sales. Pre-shipment photos of packing, pallet labels and container loading are sent before departure. The COA of the shipped lot travels with the documents. Any quality claim is answered within 2 working days; affected lots are replaced or credited after joint verification with the customer's trial data. Technical support by video call is available during the first production run on every new grade.

USAGE NOTES

The package is designed to be dosed as supplied. The notes below cover the points where converters most often lose performance between the bag and the finished part.

01Dosage control. Stay inside the grade window: 1.0–2.5% for film, 1.5–3.0% general purpose, 2.0–4.0% engineering resins, 3.0–5.0% toughening. Below the window the stabiliser reserve is exhausted early; above it, slip and lubricant effects start to dominate and surface defects or weld-line weakness appear. Check the shot weight on a gravimetric feeder over 20 shots, not on a single reading.
02Feeding point and order. Dose into the main feed throat together with the resin, or into a downstream port at least 4 D from the hopper where a side feeder exists. Never add the package after the melting zone: the pellets will not disperse and the result is fisheyes and unmelted specks. When a filler or a colour masterbatch is also used, keep the package in the same feed stream as the resin so that both see the same residence time.
03Water and moisture. Dry the resin as the process requires; the package itself only needs dry storage. Where the compound is hygroscopic (PA, PBT, ABS), dry to ≤ 0.1% before extrusion — package moisture is ≤ 0.3% but resin moisture is the usual source of voids and silver streaks.
04Compatibility pre-test. Before a production run, check the package against the specific colourant, flame retardant and filler in the formulation. A 2 kg pre-mix passed through the actual screw profile reveals interactions that a datasheet cannot: colour shift from the acid scavenger, haze from an incompatible carrier, or a viscosity change from the impact modifier.
05Processing window. The standard grades tolerate up to 260 °C melt temperature; high-heat grades to 300 °C. Keep residence time under 6 minutes in the barrel. Long stops at temperature consume the antioxidant and yellow the part — purge the barrel rather than let the compound sit.
06Storage and handling. Store unopened at 5–35 °C, relative humidity ≤ 65%, out of direct sunlight, maximum 8 bags high. Reseal opened bags and use within 30 days. No special PPE is required beyond normal dust protection; avoid open flames and keep the feeding area free of accumulated dust.
CHECKIf a fault appears after switching to the package, isolate it with three runs: resin only, resin plus package, resin plus package plus colourant. The run that first shows the fault identifies the interaction, and technical support can then re-balance the package rather than the whole formulation.

COMMON PROBLEMS IN DOWNSTREAM PRODUCTION

Eleven faults that converters report most often when a new additive package enters a running line. Each entry gives the symptom as the operator sees it, the probable cause, and the corrective action to take before the next shift.

P-01Undispersed specks and fisheyes in film or thin wall parts

Cause: pellets added downstream of the melting zone, carrier melt index too low for the process temperature, or a package stored above 35 °C and partly fused.

Solution: move the dosing point to the main feed throat, confirm the carrier MI against the resin, and lower the last barrel zone by 5–10 °C so the pellets melt before the mixing section. In film, add a 40/80 mesh screen pack and re-check the fisheye count on a 60 µm drawdown.

P-02Black specks and carbon build-up at the die

Cause: degraded material held in a dead spot, usually at a poorly swept screw element or at the die adapter; aggravated by over-dosing lubricant in the package.

Solution: purge with a high-viscosity purging compound, inspect and polish the adapter, and reduce the package dosage to the lower half of its window. If specks return within a shift, the cause is residence time, not the additive: shorten the barrel or raise the output.

P-03Plate-out and die build-up on film lines

Cause: low-molecular-weight lubricant or slip agent migrating to the surface faster than the line can carry it away; common when a slip-rich package is dosed into a formulation that already contains erucamide.

Solution: switch to the film grade with a balanced slip level, remove the duplicate slip masterbatch, and clean the die lips every 8 hours during the transition. Check the deposit by FTIR: an ester or amide peak confirms migration rather than degradation.

P-04Colour shift or yellowing after the package is introduced

Cause: acid scavenger reacting with a pigment or with a residual catalyst in the resin; or an antioxidant system consumed by excessive heat history.

Solution: run a colour panel against the previous lot, verify the pigment type against the package's acid scavenger, and lower the melt temperature by 10 °C. Where yellowing appears only after oven ageing, move to the low-yellowing variant of the grade.

P-05Viscosity drift during the run

Cause: impact modifier or peroxide-carrying component interacting with a resin whose melt index varies lot to lot; also uneven dosing from a volumetric feeder on a shallow hopper.

Solution: verify the resin MI on arrival, use a gravimetric feeder with a 20-shot weight check, and hold the package dosage constant while the resin MI is trimmed. Log the melt pressure every hour: a drift above 5% signals the cause before the parts do.

P-06Blocking and caking of the bags in storage

Cause: bags stacked above 8 high in a warehouse above 35 °C, or pellets still warm from production packed too early.

Solution: cool the pellets below 40 °C before packing, keep the stack to 8 bags, and store away from sunlight and heaters. Re-condition caked bags at 25 °C for 24 hours before use; do not break them by impact.

P-07Voids, silver streaks and bubbles

Cause: moisture in the resin, not in the package; the package's own moisture is ≤ 0.3% but a hygroscopic resin at 0.3% will still foam.

Solution: dry PA, PBT and ABS to ≤ 0.1% before extrusion, check the dryer dew point, and vent the first 30 seconds of each run. Add a vacuum vent if the line has one.

P-08Odour and VOC complaints on finished parts

Cause: residual monomer or amine-based stabiliser, or degradation products from an overheated barrel; intensified in recycled feedstock.

Solution: request the low-odour version of the grade, add a vented barrel section, and cap the melt temperature. For automotive interior parts, run a VOC chamber test on the first lot rather than after the part is tooled.

P-09Screw slip and unstable feeding

Cause: over-lubrication from dosing above the window, or a carrier whose MI is far above the resin's, which reduces the friction the screw needs to convey solids.

Solution: cut the dosage by 0.5% absolute, match the carrier MI to the resin, and check the feed throat for bridging. In starve-fed lines, verify that the feeder output matches the screw's conveying capacity at the new dosage.

P-10Weld-line weakness and low impact on moulded parts

Cause: impact modifier poorly dispersed, or too high a filler loading competing with the modifier for the interface.

Solution: use the toughening grade with a compatibiliser, raise the mixing-section temperature slightly to improve dispersion, and re-check notched Izod at the weld line, not on a random specimen.

P-11Batch-to-batch inconsistency between deliveries

Cause: active content or pellet size distribution drifting between production lots; sometimes the customer's own feeder calibration rather than the product.

Solution: compare the COA of the new lot with the retained standard, weigh 20 shots of the new lot on the customer's feeder before running, and keep one sealed reference bag per lot. If the COA is inside limits and the fault persists, the feeder or the resin lot is the variable — request a joint trial rather than a replacement.
