Product Introduction
Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) is a free-flowing white powder produced by spray-drying polymer emulsion, mainly based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer. Once mixed with water, it can re-form a stable polymer emulsion with the original film-forming performance.
When added into dry-mix mortar, RDP forms a continuous flexible polymer film inside the hardened mortar matrix. This film greatly improves adhesion strength, flexibility, impact resistance, water resistance and abrasion resistance. It compensates the brittleness defect of pure inorganic cementitious materials.
RDP is widely combined with HPMC, starch ether and other additives. It is a core functional additive for high-performance building mortars. For tile adhesive, RDP improves tile bonding strength and thermal shock resistance; for exterior insulation mortar, it enhances crack resistance and waterproof performance; for self-leveling, it optimizes surface toughness and prevents peeling. In putty and repair mortar, it increases surface cohesion and reduces powdering.
Our RDP series has stable film-forming temperature and good redispersibility. It can adapt to different construction climates and alkaline cement systems. Different grades are customized to balance flexibility, hardness, water resistance and open time, to match various downstream mortar formulations.

Product Grades & Recommended Usage
| Grade | Main Property | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| RDP 5010 | Balanced flexibility & strength, standard MFFT | General C1 tile adhesive, common wall putty, masonry mortar |
| RDP 5020 | Higher flexibility, excellent crack resistance | External insulation base coat, flexible repair mortar, gypsum plaster |
| RDP 5030 | High water resistance, high cohesive strength | C2 high-performance tile adhesive, cement waterproof coating, tile grout |
| RDP 5040 | Low MFFT, good low-temperature film forming | Self-leveling compound, construction in low-temperature regions |
Recommended dosage: 1.0% – 3.5% of total dry powder weight. Higher dosage brings better flexibility, water resistance and adhesion. Usually compounded with HPMC for water retention and starch ether for anti-slipping performance.
POINTS FOR ATTENTION
ORDER INSTRUCTIONS
- Confirm the exact RDP grade before order: RDP 5010 / 5020 / 5030 / 5040. Each grade has different MFFT, flexibility and water resistance, which directly decide final mortar performance.
- Specify particle size requirement. Standard grade is 80 mesh; finer 100 mesh option is available for putty and thin-layer coating to reduce visible speckles.
- Select packing option: 25kg kraft paper bag with inner PE liner, 25kg plastic drum, 500kg or 1000kg jumbo bag. Palletized packaging is strongly recommended for sea freight to avoid bag rupture and moisture absorption.
- Inform us of your main formulation system: tile adhesive, external insulation mortar, self-leveling, gypsum plaster, waterproof coating or wall putty. Our technical team can verify grade matching with HPMC and starch ether.
- Minimum bulk order quantity is 1 ton. 25kg sample package is available for lab testing and pilot mixing before mass production.
- Clarify required documents: TDS, COA, MSDS, Certificate of Origin. We provide complete document set for import customs clearance.
- Stock grades lead time: 5–7 working days. Customized RDP with special MFFT or ash content needs 14–20 working days production cycle.
- Notify if your destination area is high humidity or rainy season, we will upgrade moisture-proof inner film and reinforce pallet wrapping.
USAGE NOTES
- RDP is designed for dry-mix blending. Mix uniformly with cement, sand, fillers, HPMC, starch ether and other additives in dry state, then add water on construction site.
- Do not pre-disperse RDP separately in hot water above 60℃. High temperature will damage polymer emulsion film-forming ability and reduce final bonding strength.
- Recommended dosage range: 1.0%–3.5% based on total dry powder weight. Higher dosage improves flexibility and water resistance, but increases material cost and may slow hardening speed.
- RDP performs stable in alkaline cement and gypsum systems. Strong acidic raw materials mixed together will break polymer chains and cause permanent performance loss.
- Dry mixing sequence: pre-blend RDP with other micro-additives first to form additive masterbatch, then add into cement and sand. This avoids local high concentration agglomeration.
- After the mortar is mixed with water, finish construction within its open time. Re-stirring cured leftover slurry cannot recover original film-forming performance.
- Seal and store in cool dry warehouse. Damp RDP powder loses free-flow property, agglomerates and cannot redisperse normally, leading to unstable batch quality.
- When compounding: RDP provides adhesion, flexibility and water resistance; HPMC controls water retention; starch ether provides anti-sagging and anti-slip. Adjust three additives separately to balance construction performance.

COMMON PROBLEMS IN DOWNSTREAM PRODUCTION
- Low tile bonding strength, easy tile peeling: Selected RDP grade has insufficient film strength or dosage is too low. Switch to RDP5030 and increase dosage properly. Also check HPMC water retention; rapid water loss will stop polymer film formation.
- Mortar surface cracks after curing: RDP dosage insufficient or wrong grade with poor flexibility. RDP5020 is preferred for anti-crack systems. Excessive sand proportion and too fast drying speed also cause cracking.
- Poor water resistance of finished mortar: Standard flexible grade cannot meet waterproof requirement. Use high water-resistant RDP 5030. Confirm cement dosage and avoid excessive calcium carbonate filler.
- Agglomerated rubber powder particles appear on mortar surface: Damp RDP raw material, or poor dry mixing efficiency. RDP absorbs moisture inside bags; check packaging seal. Pre-mix RDP with fine filler to improve dispersion.
- Unstable test results between production batches: Micro-additive mixing uniformity is poor. RDP addition ratio is relatively low. Prepare additive masterbatch instead of direct single-point feeding.
- Self-leveling surface has pinholes and bubbles: RDP increases system viscosity and traps air. Add compatible defoamer and control stirring speed and stirring time after adding water.
- Film cannot form under low-temperature construction: MFFT of selected grade is too high. Change to low film-forming temperature grade RDP5040 for cold climate projects.
- Dry mortar long-term storage causes performance decline: RDP absorbs water vapor through bag gaps. Use aluminum liner packaging, control warehouse humidity below 60%RH and shorten stock cycle.
- Mortar becomes too sticky and hard to trowel: Overdosage of RDP. Reduce rubber powder content and adjust HPMC dosage together to keep suitable workability.
- Insulation base coat cracks after thermal cycling test: Polymer film toughness not enough. Upgrade RDP grade, or increase fiber content to cooperate with RDP anti-crack system.
