PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Our Special Silica Matting Powder is a high-performance inorganic matting agent designed to reduce gloss and create a uniform low-gloss or matte surface in a wide range of coating systems. It is manufactured through a controlled synthesis and classification process, providing fine particle size distribution, high porosity, good transparency and excellent matting efficiency.

The product works by forming a microscopic surface texture that scatters incident light, thereby reducing reflection and gloss without significantly affecting the clarity or mechanical properties of the coating. Its porous structure and narrow particle size distribution help achieve a smooth, soft-touch finish with consistent appearance across different substrates and film thicknesses.

Compared with conventional matting agents, this special silica grade offers better dispersion stability, higher transparency, improved weather resistance and less influence on coating hardness. It can be used in both clear and pigmented systems, supporting customers in producing satin, semi-matte and full-matte finishes according to market requirements.

It is compatible with water-based, solvent-based and UV-curable systems, including architectural coatings, industrial paints, wood coatings, leather finishes, plastic coatings and topcoats. Within the recommended dosage, it does not cause serious viscosity increase, settling or loss of mechanical strength.

Every batch is produced under strict quality control, with testing for particle size, oil absorption, matting efficiency, transparency and storage stability. Our technical team can recommend the most suitable grade and dosage according to the customer’s resin system, target gloss, substrate and construction method. COA, TDS and MSDS are available to support export documentation and quality traceability.

POINTS FOR ATTENTION

ORDER INSTRUCTIONS
1. Confirm Grade and Target Gloss Please tell us your coating type, resin system, target gloss level, substrate and construction method. We will recommend the most suitable silica grade and reference dosage.
2. Confirm Quantity and Packaging Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, 25 kg drums, 200 L drums and IBC tanks. Custom labels, pallet packing and shipping marks are available for export orders.
3. Delivery and Logistics Please provide the delivery port or destination address. We will confirm lead time, loading plan and export documents before production.
4. Quality Assurance and After-sales Support Each batch is supplied with COA, TDS and MSDS. If gloss variation, poor transparency or dispersion problems occur, our technical team will assist with re-testing and grade adjustment.
Trial Order Tip:
For new customers, we recommend a small trial batch first to verify gloss level, transparency and dispersion in your actual coating system before bulk order.
USAGE NOTES
Dosage Control:
Typical dosage is 1–8% depending on target gloss and system type. Start from the lower limit and increase gradually. Overdosing may affect transparency, hardness and coating smoothness.
Dispersion Method:
Add slowly under high-speed stirring or grinding. Use proper dispersing equipment to avoid agglomerates. Avoid prolonged extremely high shear that may damage particle structure.
Compatibility Pre-test:
Before mass production, test compatibility with your resin, pigment, dispersant and other additives. Observe gloss, transparency, viscosity and storage stability.
Construction Condition:
Apply under recommended temperature and humidity. Poor drying or unsuitable film formation may affect final matte uniformity.
Storage Condition:
Keep sealed in a cool, dry and ventilated warehouse at 5–35℃. Avoid moisture absorption. Stir or re-disperse well before use if slight settling occurs.
Safety Operation:
Wear gloves and protective glasses during handling. Avoid inhalation of dust and direct contact with eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with clean water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.

Formula Guidance:
Choose SM-100 for general architectural coatings, SM-200 for clear varnishes, SM-300 for leather and plastic finishes, SM-400 for UV systems, and SM-500 for exterior industrial topcoats. Adjust dosage based on target gloss and film thickness.
COMMON PROBLEMS IN DOWNSTREAM PRODUCTION
Gloss Not Low Enough or Uneven Matte Effect Dosage is insufficient, particle size is unsuitable, or dispersion is uneven. Solution: Increase dosage gradually, select finer grade if needed, and improve dispersion quality.
Poor Transparency and Hazy Film Wrong grade or overdosing may reduce clarity, especially in clear varnishes. Solution: Use SM-200 high transparency grade, reduce dosage, and avoid strong over-grinding.
Agglomerates and Rough Surface Poor dispersion causes silica clusters, leading to grainy or rough coating surface. Solution: Improve stirring or grinding efficiency, add stepwise, and check dispersant compatibility.
Viscosity Increase and Poor Levelling High oil absorption or excessive dosage may raise system viscosity and affect flow. Solution: Reduce dosage, use lower oil absorption grade, and adjust rheology with compatible additives.
Settling During Storage Silica particles may settle if the system lacks sufficient suspension stability. Solution: Optimize thickener system, improve dispersion, and check storage temperature.
Film Hardness Reduction Overdosing or wrong grade may weaken coating hardness and mechanical strength. Solution: Control dosage within recommended range and select grade suitable for hard film system.
UV Curing Speed Decrease Some matting agents may affect UV curing if not properly selected. Solution: Use SM-400 UV special grade and confirm compatibility with photoinitiator system.
Batch-to-Batch Gloss Variation Variation in dispersion, dosage or raw material may cause gloss difference. Solution: Keep dosage and dispersion conditions stable, and perform gloss test before full production.
