PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Our Thickener & Levelling Agent is a multifunctional water-borne additive designed to deliver stable viscosity adjustment and excellent levelling performance in one single component. It combines thickening efficiency, anti-sagging property and flow control, widely used in water-based coating, ink, adhesive and slurry systems. It is supplied as liquid emulsion, easy to disperse and mix directly into aqueous formulations without complicated pre-treatment.

This product regulates rheological behaviour in two ways. At low shear conditions, it builds up viscosity to prevent pigment settling, sagging on vertical surfaces and splashing during storage and transportation. Under high shear force from brushing, rolling, spraying or high-speed pumping, the viscosity drops temporarily, improving fluidity so the coating can spread evenly on the substrate. After construction, viscosity recovers rapidly to avoid sag, running and orange peel defects.

It features outstanding compatibility with acrylic emulsions, polyurethane dispersions, various pigments, fillers, dispersants and defoamers. It will not cause flocculation, discoloration or unstable viscosity fluctuation when added within the recommended dosage. It maintains stable rheology over a wide pH range and temperature variation, resisting viscosity drifting during long-term storage of finished products.

Compared with separate thickener and levelling additives, this integrated grade simplifies formula design, reduces the number of raw material types and shortens batching time for manufacturers. It effectively solves typical coating defects including brush marks, roller texture, poor self-flowing, sagging on thick coating layers and uneven film thickness. It also helps improve surface smoothness, gloss uniformity and final decorative effect.

Main downstream sectors include architectural latex paint, industrial water-based protective coating, water-based flexo and gravure ink, waterborne adhesive, paper coating slurry, textile coating and water-based putty. It fits both indoor low-odor formulas and outdoor weather-resistant coating systems. Different series are available for high-gloss, matte, high-build and spray-grade requirements.

Every batch is tested for thickening efficiency, levelling performance, pH stability and storage stability before delivery. Our technical team supports custom rheology adjustment according to customers’ construction method, substrate type and target film appearance. Complete COA, TDS and MSDS documents are provided to support export and quality traceability.

POINTS FOR ATTENTION

ORDER INSTRUCTIONS
1. Confirm Grade and Rheology Requirement Please inform us your product type, construction method (brush / roller / spray), target gloss, anti-sagging requirement and storage temperature range. We will recommend TL series grade and reference dosage.
2. Confirm Packaging Specification Standard package: 25kg plastic drum, 200kg iron/plastic drum, IBC 1000L tank. Custom label, pallet packing and shipping mark are acceptable for export orders.
3. Delivery & Logistics Arrangement This product is non-hazardous waterborne additive, shipped as general cargo. We confirm production lead time, loading plan and shipping documents before production.
4. Batch Document & After-sales Service Each batch is accompanied by COA, TDS and MSDS. Our technical team helps adjust dosage and solve rheology defects if unstable viscosity or poor levelling appears in your production.
Trial Suggestion:
New customers are recommended to arrange small trial batch first, test viscosity stability, levelling effect and compatibility in your own formula before bulk order.
USAGE NOTES
Dosage Control:
Typical adding range is 0.2–1.2%. Add gradually under stirring and test viscosity after each addition. Excessive addition will lead to poor flow, slow levelling and rough film surface.
Adding Method:
It is better diluted with 2–3 times clean water before addition. Add in later stage of dispersion, avoid adding together with high-content dispersant or surfactant directly, which may weaken thickening efficiency.
Compatibility Pre-test:
Before mass production, test with your emulsion, pigment, defoamer and other auxiliaries. Observe viscosity change, stability, film appearance after 24h static storage.
pH Adjustment Tips:
This product works best under pH 7–9. If your system pH is too low, adjust pH by alkaline regulator first before adding thickener & levelling agent.
Storage Condition:
Store sealed in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse, 5~35℃. Prevent frost. Frozen product will lose original performance and cannot be used normally after thawing.
Safety Operation:
Although non-hazardous, avoid long-time skin contact and splashing into eyes. Wear gloves and goggles during operation. Rinse with plenty of clean water once contacted.

Formula Guidance:
High-gloss spray formula chooses TL-200 for better levelling. Thick-build waterproof and putty systems select TL-300 for anti-sag. Always match with proper defoamer and wetting agent, adjust dosage stepwise to balance viscosity, flow and film appearance.
COMMON PROBLEMS IN DOWNSTREAM PRODUCTION
Poor Levelling, Obvious Brush / Roller Marks Viscosity recovery is too fast after shearing, or the grade selected focuses too much on anti-sagging. The coating cannot flow out sufficiently before film formation. Solution: Switch to TL-200 high levelling grade, reduce dosage properly and extend open time by compatible wetting agent.
Sagging and Running on Vertical Surfaces Low-shear viscosity is insufficient, or dosage is too low. It frequently appears in thick-coat exterior waterproof and textured coating. Solution: Adopt TL-300 anti-sagging grade, increase dosage gradually and control single coating thickness.
Viscosity Drift During Storage (Rising or Dropping) pH value out of suitable range, incompatibility with surfactants, or microbial spoilage in the system. Solution: Adjust pH to 7–9, test compatibility, add biocide and check storage temperature.
Pigment Settling and Delamination Static viscosity is not enough to suspend fillers and pigments, especially for high-filler putty and heavy pigment coating. Solution: Increase low-shear thickening capacity, use TL-300 and match with suitable dispersant to stabilize pigment slurry.
Spray Atomization Poor, Nozzle Blocking High viscosity under spray shear, or uneven dispersion of thickener agglomerate. Solution: Dilute thickener before adding, select TL-200 and reduce total dosage properly for spray formulas.
Matte / Gloss Abnormality on Final Film Overdose of thickener-levelling agent destroys arrangement of matting powder or resin, forming uneven surface. Solution: Cut down dosage, test the minimum effective amount, do not over-adjust rheology.
Thickening Efficiency Drops Sharply Adding together with high-concentration surfactant / dispersant directly, or system pH is too acidic. Solution: Adjust pH first, add thickener at later mixing stage, avoid co-adding with strong surfactant.
Performance Failure After Low-temperature Storage Ordinary grade is sensitive to freezing and low temperature, viscosity changes greatly after cold transportation. Solution: Use TL-500 low-temperature stable grade, keep warehouse temperature above 5℃ during storage and transit.
